News: GTAIV: San Andreas Beta 3 is out now

A common question that publishers get but generally overlook is region-locking and which copies support which languages. While we're still over a month away from the release of Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar has created a support article detailing which copies of GTAV will be region locked and which languages will be supported.

PlayStation®3 (Region-Free*):

  • North America, Asia (Except Japan) – English, French, Brazilian Portuguese**, Korean, Traditional Chinese, Latin American Spanish
  • Europe, Middle East, Russia – English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese**, Polish
  • Japan – Japanese and English

Xbox 360:

  • Worldwide (Region-Free*) except for Japan – English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese**, Polish, Korean, Traditional Chinese, Latin American Spanish
  • Japan (Region-Locked to Japanese Xbox 360 Consoles) – Japanese and English

Interestingly, the PlayStation 3 version of the game will be split into three different SKUs: North America, Europe and Japan. This is in contrast to the Xbox 360 version which will only have two separate SKUs: Worldwide and Japan. What is also surprising is that the 360 Japanese version is the only version to not only receive a region lock, but to also only two languages. As to why it's locked and limited, we're not entirely sure. According to a number of retailers and the official Japanese website, Rockstar is actually publishing GTAV in Japan this time around as opposed to previously where Capcom was the sole translator and distributor of GTA in Japan, this leads us to believe it's not a rights issue. Hopefully closer to launch we'll get a clearer picture on this issue.
