20 Jun 2013 - Max Payne 3 now available for Mac OSX
Today marks the release of Max Payne 3 for Mac OSX. As we've previously reported, the port does use Transgaming's Cider technology, which allows games made for Windows to be played on OSX. The port also takes advantage of SteamPlay, allowing players who purchased Max Payne 3 for Windows on Steam to play the OSX version at no additional cost. You can pick up Max on the Mac App Store or on Steam for $39.99 USD, though we recommend Steam as you get both the Windows and OSX version.
18 Jun 2013 - Max Payne 3 for OSX coming June 20th
After staying silent for 5 months, Rockstar has finally acknowledged the existence of Max Payne 3 for OSX and has announced that it'll be coming to the App Store on June 20th. No word yet if this also includes Steam, which as we've previously reported, is currently set to allow Windows users to grab the OSX version at no additional cost. A list of system requirements is below.
16 May 2013 - UPDATE: Max Payne 3 for OSX (sort of) available on Steam
EDIT: It seems that although Steam will let you walk through the download screens on OSX, it fails to actually download the game (resulting in the error below). This is likely because the actual game files are still marked as part of a private beta on Steam's backend. Still, this shows that Rockstar is nearing the release stage and we should hear something officially very shortly.
ORIGINAL ARTICLE: A few months ago we announced that Rockstar was silently working on a Mac OSX port of Max Payne 3 using the Cider emulation layer. In the same vein that Rockstar worked on it, Rockstar has silently released the port on Steam just a few hours ago. It is a SteamPlay title, meaning that if you already own the Windows version, you can download Max on your Mac at no extra cost.
As of yet Rockstar has yet to even officially acknowledge the port so we're not sure if the port will be making its way to other services such as the Mac App Store. We'll update you when we have more information.
08 Mar 2013 - Max Payne Franchise sale on Steam
Its been quiet the past month in Rockstar land since the delay of Grand Theft Auto V. To help offset that, Steam is currently having a 66% off sale on the entire Max Payne franchise, including DLC! If you have yet to pick up any of the classics or Max Payne 3 and the Rockstar DLC pass, now is a great time to do so. Hurry, the sale ends March 11th.
As for those of you who are still waiting for the Mac OSX version that we reported about last month, you'll have to wait a little bit longer. While Rockstar still has yet to announce the version, the Steam database is reporting that Rockstar is still actively developing the port, with a new beta version being pushed to Steam just last night.
EDIT: Seems the sale was so popular that Steam has actually ran out of keys for Max Payne 3. Not to worry though, you can still purchase Max on Steam and keys for the game will be delivered as soon as Rockstar provisions some new ones, likely first thing Monday morning.
05 Feb 2013 - Max Payne 3 coming to OSX
A recent update to Steam's game database has revealed Rockstar is in the testing stages of an OSX port of Max Payne 3 using TransGaming's Cider technology. The tech has been used in the past to bring other Rockstar titles to OSX such as the Grand Theft Auto III trilogy. While the port has not yet been officially announced, the evidence is pretty solid. The Steam database has been the source for a number of title leaks in the past and the entries are created by the developers themselves. No word yet on when to expect a release so stay tuned.
